If an emergency should arise, please call 911. Emergencies are considered to be those conditions that are life-threatening.  Common emergencies in Endocrinology include Diabetic Ketoacidosis which usually presents with a high blood sugar, nause, vomiting, and abdominal pain.  Hypoglycemia, which may present with low blood sugar, loss of consciousness or seizure.  Adrenal insufficiency or crisis, which usually presents with low blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, extreme weakness and fatigue.  Finally thyroid storm or accerated thyrotoxicosis, which manifests with rapid heart rate, sweating, nervousness, tremor, fever, and change in mental status.
